Paul Mok Kan Hwei

Paul Mok Kan Hweihas had a distinguished career in public service for the past 23 years. He graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical School in 1991 and was admitted into ENT surgical training in 1995. He obtained his post graduate diploma from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1997. Dr Paul Mok completed his advanced surgical training in ENT in 2000 and was awarded the Human Manpower Development Program (HMDP) to do a fellowship in Voice and Swallowing at the Grabscheid Voice Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City from 2001-2002. He trained under Dr Peak Woo, a leading international expert in Voice and Swallowing Disorders.

Upon his return, Dr Mok helped to develop the Voice, Swallowing and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) service at the ENT department in Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he practised till 2005. He went over to Alexandra Hospital and headed the ENT service there. Between 2005- 2010, this small service was transformed into a full-fledged department. The team subsequently migrated to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in 2010 when the hospital first opened its doors and has grown from strength to strength over the years. Dr Paul Mok Kan Hwei stepped down as the Head of Department in 2013 and was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Medical Board. He was responsible for overseeing care transformation in the area of inpatient care. His other responsibilities include the Vice Chairman of Singapore Academy of Medicine Chapter of ENT Surgeons, Member of the ENT Resident Assessment Committee and numerous other training and administrative appointments in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He is also an examiner in various postgraduate ENT exams in Singapore.

Dr Paul Mok cares for patients with a wide variety of ENT conditions. These include managing patients with nasal allergies, sinus infections, ear problems and swellings in the head and neck region. His special areas of interests are in Voice, Swallowing and managing patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. He enjoys running Voice Clinics in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Jurong General Hospital. Dr Mok is also passionately involved in treating patients with OSA and runs the Sleep Clinic at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He has been invited to many local, regional and international conferences and workshops to lecture, teach and perform live surgery in these two sub-specialty areas. His research projects have been presented at various scientific meetings and have won prizes at the Singapore-Malaysian ENT Congress and the ASEAN Sleep Congress.

Dr Mok has been active in medical missions and humanitarian work for the past 15 years. He works closely with Crisis Relief Singapore and has been on medical missions to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. He also maintains an interest in the delivery of health care to the community in Singapore.
